The Hobbie family's rhododendron park is Germany's largest rhododendron park with 70 hectares and is already in the 3rd generation of the family. In the 1920s, Dietrich Gerhard Hobbie began collecting many wild forms and in 1928, with the sowing of the first rhododendron seeds, laid the foundation stone for the now almost 90-year-old rhododendron park. He bred his own varieties, which are now on sale around the world. Many of the forage plants are still in the park, but also countless nameless hybrids that were not used for propagation and therefore only exist once in the world.
The park is accessible via a more than 10km long network of paths. It looks almost like being in the jungle when you walk through the up to 9 metre high rhododendrons in the front area of the park. For a walk on the 2.5 km long circular route, you need about 1.5 hours. This leads past a few small show gardens and an educational forest trail for children and adults. Afterwards there is the opportunity to indulge yourself in the cozy Park Café in the entrance area.
