The Ammerland landscape has always been shaped by windmills and water mills. At the heyday of the mills at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, 47 mills still existed, nine of which are still functional and can be visited today. The 47-kilometer route leads to six Ammerland mills, which have been preserved for posterity with great voluntary commitment. The course of the route leads through the most beautiful moorland and pastureland with varied and winding passages and is almost entirely paved.
